This was the big one for Jim Lowe. “The Green Door” dropped Elvis’ “Love Me Tender” from US #1 spot on Nov. 17, 1956.

The title song has been covered by many artists and groups, including Bill Haley & His Comets, The Cramps and Shakin’ Stevens, whose version spent four weeks at UK #1 in 1981.
