Clyde McPhatter started his career in the Dominoes and the Drifters. He went solo in 1955. This single was his last Top 10 hit. 

McPhatter co-wrote the flip side with the Drifters’ original guitarist, Jimmy Oliver.

“Lover Please” was originally recorded by Bill Black (in 1960), who was Elvis Presley’s bass player in 1954-57.
